An early fascination with photography and photojournalism led to studies in the Communication department at the University of Texas in Austin before transitioning into the Fine Arts. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the same university and a double Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Photography from the University of Houston. |
![]() ![]() | Steven currently resides in Houston, TX, and is a Professor of Art at Houston Community College SW. As a second-generation educator, Potter has years of experience teaching ESL linguistics and Fine Arts Painting, Photography, and Art History at the HCC. He also designed and taught hybrid courses in Art History at The University of Houston Main Campus. Professor Potter has been a strong advocate for integrating information technology into the college classroom and the new “Humanist” model of education learned in the linguistic field. Steven grew up around water and boats, and being out on his sailboat is his biggest passion after art. Steven also enjoys motorcycling with his wife and spending time outdoors with family. |

![]() | This was Steven’s first painting at the University of Texas, Austin. He was invited by the Texas Highway Department to show his artwork in the Texas State Capitol rotunda. This is his first big oil painting, a scene from a chicken-flying contest at a folk festival, done in a photorealistic style. |
